Join us for a 4-mile guided seaside stroll from central Brighton to the lovely village of Rottingdean, which is over 1000 years old. This activity is for everybody – there is no rush, it is entirely off-road alongside the sea on good paved paths with no steep hills, and is also suitable for dogs and children.
[Alternatively, the same route can be covered in a guided bicycle tour on official cycle paths – please enquire.]
Starting from our meeting point at the entrance to Sea Life (the world's oldest aquarium) located in front of Brighton's famous Pier, we will follow the beach to Brighton Marina whilst your guide describes the history and geography of the area. Passing through the Marina with its restaurants, pleasure boats and small fishing fleet, we continue our walk along the coastal path under tall white cliffs to the picturesque village of Rottingdean, which has a rich history and boasts a number of refreshment options and local sites to visit. There are also lovely views on offer as we look further along the English Channel towards Eastbourne.
Your ticket price includes a sandwich snack and soft drink on arrival in Rottingdean, or alternatively traditional English tea with cake - or even a pint at the local pub!
After the refreshment break, you are free to enjoy the area - why not relax on the village beach or else at the nearby Saltdean Lido - an historic Art Deco outdoor swimming pool? Alternatively, you could visit the beautiful gardens at Rudyard Kipling's former home, the Georgian era Beacon Windmill sited within the local Nature Reserve, or the Grange Museum & Art Gallery. For the more adventurous, you could head for the South Downs National Park, the Seven Sisters (a series of magnificent chalk sea cliffs) and the infamous Beachy Head.
The return journey to Brighton is unaccompanied and at your leisure. It can be done from Rottingdean on foot (90’), by local bus (20'), by bicycle (30’), or by taxi (15’). Your guide will be pleased to provide further information and assistance.
